Ever wonder why verses 9-20 of Mark’s Gospel in the 16th chapter are in brackets, and why there is typically a note tied to those brackets that says something along the lines, “Some of the earliest manuscripts do not include 16:9-20.”
It has this because it wasn’t Mark’s original ending. Rather it was an ending believed to be tagged on by one of the scribes or group of scribes who were tasked with making copies of the Gospel for the ever rapidly growing church around 100 – 150 AD. About 70 years give or take after its original writing. Meaning Mark’s Gospel ended in a much different way. Today on this Easter Sunday we are going to read this original ending, and are going to discover the fullness of hope Mark gives to us the church in His original ending and how as Paul would make clear in 1st Corinthians 15:12-22 and the many teachings, statements of faith, creeds of the past make clear it is all about the resurrection.
CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY!!! What does this mean for you? How does this impact you? How has this truth forever changed you?
Forget about all the stuff on handling scorpions and snakes and live in the true reality Mark meant to communicate to us and that is Christ the Lord is risen today, and in this, we have a hope and a wonderful faith.
